Table Rules For Roulette
More Articles

With a flick of the wrist and the spin of a wheel, a roulette dealer can usher in triumph or misfortune for dozens of gamblers each night. Yet it is not the dealer, but rather the game itself that claims victims and makes temporary stars out of those willing to leave their luck to chance.

    Background

  1. According to Littlewoods Gaming, the game of roulette actually originated in France during the 17th century and was created by Blaise Pascal. Gradually, casinos began to adopt the game and its modern version was created in 1842 when Louis and Francoise Blanc opted to include the number 0 on the board and wheel.
  2. Ground Rules

  3. Roulette is one of the most popular casino table games. Containing numbers 1 through 36 in alternating colors of red and black and having two 0 and 00 blocks in green, the roulette wheel is the central focus of the game. Before the wheel is spun by the table's dealer, gamblers place their bets on a single number, several numbers, a row or column, all even numbers, all odd numbers or blocks of numbers. To place a bet, players must decide how much they wish to wager on the spin and place their specific color chips on whichever blocks they hope the ball will land on. Bets can be placed until the dealer orders "no more bets," and then players will watch anxiously as a small, white ball spins in the opposite direction to that of the wheel. When the ball lands at a number, those who have selected either that number or any of its table characteristics (color, even or odd) will win. Players must wait until all losing bets are cleared off the table before they can claim their winnings.
  4. Types of Bets

  5. There are a number of different ways that a person is able to bet on roulette. One option is to simply select one number or various single numbers on the board and hope that when the dealer gives the wheel a spin, the ball lands on that number. A person can also bet on clusters of numbers in several ways. One way is to place your chips on the corner of one of the numbered boxes where four of the numbers meet. This means that you are betting on any of the numbers that meet at that corner. You can also place a similar bet, setting your chips on the line dividing two numbers. This means that if either of the numbers comes out, you have placed a winning bet. You can also place a bet that any of the numbers in a given column will win or you can bet that any of the numbers in the groups 1 through 12, 13 through 24 or 25 through 36 or the groups 1 through 18 and 19 through 36 be the winner. Players may also bet on three numbers that are side by side one another. Finally, players can also bet on whether the winning number will be odd or even or if it will be black or red.
