The French government decided to legalize the online casino companies offering a piece to the future investors of the 1 billion Euros that the French citizens played during the last year. This month was indeed full of news related to the acceptance or not of online gambling by the governments of the European Union. Following the decisions of Estonia and Belgium which declined to accept online gambling, one of EU’s superpowers – France decided to draw a draft law that would legalize online gambling and open the way for foreign and local firms to invest in this area and take a piece of 1 billion Euros online gambling market. Two are the main benefits that this decision will produce; Firstly, The French government will adapt to EU legislation and secondly and most important is that the country will gain a lot of money from taxes of each online casino company. This is certainly an unexpected step forward as the gambling games operate under a state monopoly framed by strict lows. The result is expected to draw more countries – members of European Union – to build up a law frame that will allow the online casino – gambling – companies to invest on the domestic markets.

Elsewhere, in Belgium, the House of Representatives passed a frame law which forces each and every company that is involved in online gambling to acquire an actual – physical – casino license if they wish to attract customers from the country. The licenses will be issued by the Belgian Gaming Committee and the approved companies will have to actually build casinos. The law is completely opposite to the European Union free competition rules and will only force the online casino companies to withdrawn from the Belgian market as the development and the maintenance of an actual casino house is way too much costly than a digital one. On the other hand, the Belgian Government stated that this law actually protects the Belgian citizens because the creation of actual casinos will increase the credibility and the trust from the players towards the casinos. This is a law that EU will have to deal in the near future as many other countries might follow. The fact is that Belgium wants to force the online casino companies – or at least the biggest ones – to invest heavily in the Belgium territory in order more short term and permanent jobs to be created which will reduce the unemployment and increase the income to the national treasury from taxation.
